Clowns, Dancers, Apes, Slaves Begin Rehearsals For Annual May Day Fete Members Present Real-Life Picture of Girls’ School The Dramatic Club of Saint Mary’s School presented “'ITie Young and Fair” in the school au ditorium on Friday evening, March 3. Miss Florence C. Davis directed the three-act play, tvhich is the first given by the group this year. The play by X. Richard Nash calls for an all-female cast and is a story of incidents in a girls’ junior college in New England; it has as its central theme democ racy and brotherhood. The story brought out the evils of racial prejudice and taught a lesson of toleration toward all people. Will end Thursday, The theme of Saint Mary’s 1950 May Day ])rogram, sponsored by Orchesis, will be a circus. Mrs. IVilliam C. Guess will again direct ■ the May Day festivals. Vivian Scott, president of Orche sis and chairman of the production, will be featured in tbe role of ring master. “The talented and beautiful May Court” will play an unusual part in the cajiacity of tight rope walkers. Betty Bowles', the ilay (Jueen, will be billed as the star of the show. Members of the ilay Court include Sandra Sims, Rachel Cozart, Tina ilcXiilty, Moiiic Rowland, Mary Ruth Ruble, Suzanne Dawson, Syl via Xewson, Mary Mar Ragland, Beth Harriss, and Betsy V ood. At'T.S AXD DAXCE.S The clowns, who “will entertain the audience with jokes and funny antics,” are Virginia Ann Landis, King Rislev, Katie Clifton, Louise Millikcn, Dede Davcn])ort, X^ancy Woodruff, -Mice Jones, Robin Brab ham, Betty Saunders, A. J. Owens, Tonia Rowe, and Libba Dorris. Anne Cahoon and Annie Robert son wdl 2)erform a p(us* de deux lep- resenting trapeeze artists. The merry-go-round dance the members of this trainer, will supervise the execution of this dance. A grand Oriental Spectacle will incliule slaves, dancing girls, a lion and it tamer. The lion will be Ann Shuford and the trainer, Betty Ann ‘Williamson. The slaves will per form a pyramid act. Helen Young, Mary Ann Guthrie, Xeil Boone Crofton, and Jo Anne Bell will dis- ])lay their skills as baton twirlers. The grand finale will feature a chorus line of “sixteen beautiful girls in a military routine.” Contrary to the usual proceedure, the music will be recorded, and Airs.
